Moddy's Responsible Gambling Guidelines

Our commitment

Moddy is a sports analytics platform that empowers creators to build, test, and publish predictive models for sports outcomes. We do not facilitate, accept, or place bets. However, we recognize that many of our users apply our tools in the context of sports wagering, and we take that responsibility seriously.

We are committed to promoting informed, responsible decision-making among our community. These guidelines are grounded in the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) Internet Responsible Gambling Standards and reflect our belief that data-driven tools should be used thoughtfully — not as a substitute for healthy limits and self-awareness.

Understanding the risks

Predictive models are analytical tools — they are not guarantees. Even the most accurate model cannot eliminate the inherent uncertainty of sports outcomes. Before using Moddy's tools in a wagering context, please understand:

  • No model wins every time. Variance is a fundamental part of sports and betting markets. A high-performing model will still experience losing streaks.
  • Past performance does not guarantee future results. Sports are dynamic. Models should be continuously evaluated, not blindly trusted.
  • Gambling is entertainment, not income. It should never be approached as a solution to financial problems or a primary source of income.
  • The house maintains an edge. Sportsbooks price lines to retain a margin. Consistently beating closing lines requires exceptional discipline and analytical rigor.

Responsible gambling practices

We encourage all Moddy users who engage with sports betting to follow these evidence-based practices:

Set Limits — Before You Bet

  • Establish a dedicated bankroll you can afford to lose entirely, separate from everyday finances.
  • Set firm unit sizes and stake limits before using any model output to place a wager.
  • Use the limit-setting tools offered by your sportsbook (daily, weekly, and monthly deposit and loss limits).

Track Your Activity

  • Keep a record of your wagers, wins, losses, and net results over time.
  • Review your betting history regularly — most licensed sportsbooks provide accessible account history dashboards.
  • Be honest with yourself about whether the numbers reflect entertainment spending or financial stress.

Take Breaks

  • Step away regularly. Using analytical tools intensively can create the illusion of control and encourage over-betting.
  • Use time-out or cool-off features available through your sportsbook if you feel the urge to over-engage.
  • Never bet under emotional duress — following a losing streak, a personal setback, or while impaired.

Don't Chase Losses

  • Increasing bet size after losses ("chasing") is one of the most common and harmful gambling behaviors.
  • A model's edge, if it exists, plays out over a large sample. Abandoning your system under pressure or doubling down on bad results undermines both your bankroll and your analysis.

Keep It in Perspective

  • Gambling should remain a recreational activity. If it starts affecting your finances, relationships, work, or mental health, it has crossed a line.
  • Using Moddy's tools does not make gambling lower-risk. Analytical confidence can increase the temptation to bet more — be aware of this dynamic.

Know the warning signs

Problem gambling can affect anyone. Warning signs include:

  • Betting more than you planned or can afford
  • Difficulty stopping or cutting back, even when you want to
  • Lying to friends or family about gambling activity
  • Borrowing money or selling assets to fund gambling
  • Gambling to escape stress, anxiety, or depression
  • Feeling restless or irritable when trying to stop
  • Continuing to gamble despite mounting losses

If you recognize these patterns in yourself or someone you care about, help is available.

Our responsibility as a platform

While Moddy is not a gambling operator, we hold ourselves to the spirit of responsible gambling best practices:

  • We do not market our platform as a guaranteed path to gambling profits.
  • We do not encourage users to increase bet sizes, chase losses, or gamble continuously.
  • We present predictive models as analytical tools with inherent uncertainty — not certainties.
  • We support users' access to help resources and include this page prominently in our platform.
  • We are committed to reviewing and updating these guidelines annually.

Age requirement

Moddy's platform is intended for users 21 years of age or older, consistent with NCPG's minimum age recommendation for any platform whose outputs may be used in a gambling context. Users under 21 should not use Moddy's tools for wagering purposes.
